August is Black Business Month: Celebrating Black Innovators in Tech

August is Black Business Month—a time to celebrate the achievements, and contributions of Black entrepreneurs and professionals across every industry. The Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in IT (CMD-IT) takes the opportunity to highlight the Entrepreneurship in Computing panel at the 2025 Tapia Conference, scheduled for September 10-12 in Dallas, Texas.

The panel, moderated by Alicia Makaye, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer of GXA, includes the following panelists: George Makaye, Chief Executive Officer, GXA, Albert Marquez, Chief Operations Officer, 1 US Construction, and Ieshea Hollins, Founder and CEO, Direnzic Technology Consulting Group, LLC.

The companies represented on the panel have been in business for over 20 years, in some cases. The panelists will discuss factors to consider when starting a company and strategies for maintaining the company in the long-term. The panelists exemplify excellence, innovation, and leadership at the intersection of computing and entrepreneurship.  These leaders have turned challenges into opportunities, proving that entrepreneurship can powerfully shape the tech landscape.

As we honor Black Business Month this month, CMD-IT invites you to continue the celebration into September by joining us at Tapia 2025. Engage with these inspiring entrepreneurs, explore their journeys, and leave equipped with insights on building a business in computing.
