Chameleon Cloud Expands Engagement with CMD-IT Community

This past November, Marc Richardson, Technical Project Manager at the University of Chicago, gave an engaging webinar to introduce the Chameleon Cloud testbed, a large-scale, bare metal reconfigurable experimental platform for edge to cloud research. Chameleon supports a scholarly community grounded in knowledge sharing to support the exploration of systems research, education, and emerging applications.

As a follow-up to the webinar, Chameleon is offering the following opportunities to deepen its partnership with the CMD-IT community via tailored resources for institutions, researchers, and educators:

Flexible Engagement Options

  • Office Hours: Chameleon can host open drop-in sessions where users can ask questions, get project support, or learn about new platform capabilities.
  • Institution-Specific Webinars: Custom sessions can be designed for specific departments, labs, or institutions interested in a more focused introduction or technical walkthrough.
  • On-Demand Support: For researchers ready to get started, the Chameleon team is available to provide targeted guidance and technical assistance. Staff and peer support are available through the Chameleon Help Desk and the Chameleon User Forum. In addition, Chameleon maintains extensive user documentation on its system functionality and services. (New user? Try the Getting Started guide to hit the ground running!)

Ongoing Collaborations

  • Research Highlights: Anyone from the CMD-IT community using Chameleon is invited to showcase their work through Chameleon’s user experiment blog series or through a co-hosted webinar.
  • Educational Integration: Educators interested in incorporating Chameleon into coursework can access both instructional resources on Trovi, a service for uploading and sharing artifacts like course assignments and reproducible experiments, and connect with a network of instructors doing similar work.
  • Webinar Series: Chameleon co-hosts webinars on advanced topics of interest to the research computing community. View the webinar page to sign up for an existing webinar or send a proposal for one you’d like to do.

These opportunities provide flexible avenues for students, faculty, and professionals to leverage Chameleon for projects ranging from the development of applications for edge computing to artificial intelligence.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities or have new ideas for collaboration, please reach out via email to Marc Richardson (mtrichardson@uchicago.edu).
