CMD-IT Recognizes Pride Month: Honoring LGBTQ+ Communities in Computing

June is Pride Month, which provides an opportunity to highlight the achievements of LGBTQ+ individuals who are shaping the future of technology. CMD-IT honors the voices and contributions of LGBTQ+ professionals in tech who are breaking barriers and building pathways for the next generation.

This month, CMD-IT spotlights powerful LGBTQ+ communities that reflect the vibrant diversity of the field:

Black LGBTQ+ Tech Collective
A dedicated space for Black LGBTQ+ professionals in tech to connect, share resources, and advance in their careers. This community addresses both racial and LGBTQ+ inclusion, fostering visibility and leadership in a rapidly evolving industry.

Indigiqueer Tech and Design Circles
These grassroots academic and creative initiatives empower Indigenous LGBTQ+ (or Two-Spirit) technologists to merge traditional knowledge with innovation. Leader such as Dr. Suzanne Kite have been at the forefront of bridging Indigenous identity and digital futures.

Out in Tech – Latinx in Tech Chapter
A community within the broader Out in Tech network that focuses on supporting LGBTQ+ Latinx professionals through mentorship, events, and job opportunities. This chapter amplifies voices at the intersection of Latinx heritage and queer identity in computing and digital innovation.

Queerability
Founded by Katherine Perez and Kristin Duquette, Queerability is a nonprofit advocating for LGBTQ+ people with disabilities. It champions accessibility, inclusive design, and representation across tech fields, ensuring no identity is left behind in the push for equity.

CMD-IT recognizes the work of these communities and individuals who are driving progress toward a more inclusive future in tech. Pride Month is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action to champion diversity across the computing workforce.
